   Ski to Lunch - Blue Run from Sunnegga to Findeln

   This is the classic 'ski to lunch' experience - you ski directly to Chez Vrony's door on a gentle blue run (10 min, beginner-friendly). Winter only: from Zermatt, take Sunnegga funicular (8 min, CHF 18 one-way). Put on skis, take the blue piste marked 'Findeln' downhill (Run #10 on the Zermatt ski map). The run drops through open powder fields with Matterhorn views the entire way. You're skiing toward the mountain, not away from it. Chez Vrony is the first big chalet on the left with the massive sun terrace. Ski right to the entrance, click out of bindings, lean skis against the rack, walk in smelling like fresh air and victory. Best time: 11:30am arrival before lunch rush.

   🔄 BACKUP: If you don't ski or it's summer, walk from Sunnegga funicular (20 min downhill) - follow yellow signs to Findeln.

   Order What the Locals Order - Raclette with Valais Wine

   They'll bring you raclette du Valais (CHF 35-45) - PDO cheese from Valais cows, scraped fresh at your table. At your Chez Vrony terrace table (Matterhorn view mandatory), when server arrives, say: 'I want what the locals order.' Served with cornichons, pickled onions, boiled potatoes. Pair with Fendant (white, CHF 10-15/glass) - the crisp minerality cuts the richness perfectly. Locals say 'Fendant is the water of Valais' - they drink it like water with every cheese dish. Watch the raclette preparation - the server holds a half-wheel of cheese under a heating element, scrapes the melted layer onto your plate. Don't drink cold water during or after - locals swear it solidifies cheese in your stomach. Drink hot tea or wine only.

   Find the Vineyard View - Where Your Wine Was Born

   You'll see the Mattertal valley stretching below you - terraced vineyards clinging to south-facing slopes between 500-1,100m elevation. Those are Valais vineyards. The wine you just drank (Fendant, Petite Arvine, Heida) came from vines you can literally see from your lunch table. From Chez Vrony's terrace, walk to the left edge (10 meters from main seating). Look DOWN the valley toward Zermatt. Trace the valley: Zermatt is at 1,620m (too high for grapes). Descend to Visp/Sion area (600-800m) - that's where the vines are. The terraces are hand-built over centuries, dry-stone walls holding soil in place. Ask your server: 'Which vineyard did this Petite Arvine come from?' They might point directly at it.

   🔄 BACKUP: If the valley is cloud-covered (common), ask server for a photo of the vineyards or a map showing Valais wine regions. They have both behind the bar.

   Touch the 400-Year-Old Timber Chalet Beams

   The original timber beams date back 300-400 years - hand-hewn larch wood, blackened from centuries of wood smoke. Touch them. Feel the grain. These beams supported roofs through avalanches, blizzards, the Little Ice Age (1600s-1800s when glaciers advanced and buried villages). Inside Chez Vrony's main dining room (if weather drives you inside, or ask to peek in after lunch), the chalet was built without nails - timber joints locked together with wooden pegs. Traditional Valais construction. Look for the year carved into the central beam (often 1700s). Don't be shy - Swiss mountain huts expect you to appreciate the history. Run your hand along a beam. Ask server: 'How old is this building?'

   🔄 BACKUP: If the interior is too crowded to explore, look at the exterior walls - some original larch planks are visible, weathered silver-grey from sun and snow.
