   A two-story silk painting unveiled ONCE EVERY 12 YEARS. Adorned with semi-precious stones. Miss it on July 5-6, 2025, and wait until 2037. Get to Hemis Monastery by 7 AM - massive crowds gather for this moment that "brings blessings to those who see it." Find position facing the monastery's main building and witness something most people will never experience twice in their lifetime.

   Watch the Three-Drop Chang Offering

   Monks flicking three drops of chang before drinking - Buddha, Dharma, Sangha. This ritual is CENTURIES old. During the early morning puja (8 AM) in the main prayer hall, sit quietly in the back and watch for the ring-finger flick. Three drops: First for Buddha. Second for his teachings. Third for the community.

   🔄 BACKUP: If no puja happening, ask a monk to demonstrate the ritual - they're often happy to share.

   Taste Festival Chang in Traditional Bowls

   Chang (barley beer) served in traditional wooden phing bowls - not tourist glasses. This is Ladakh's drink of celebration. At the food stalls outside the monastery during festivals, buy from the elderly women running the stalls and watch them serve with both hands, honoring centuries of tradition.
