1. 1 Master the Three-Drop Ritual Wine · Free

   The Buddhist offering - flick three drops with your ring finger before drinking. First: Buddha. Second: Dharma (teachings). Third: Sangha (community). At your homestay or cultural evening venue in Leh, watch your host do it first, then practice. Get it right and you're showing DEEP respect for Ladakhi culture.

2. 2 Accept the Cup That Cannot Be Refused History · Price: low

   Refusing the first cup is considered EXTREMELY rude in Ladakhi culture. This isn't optional hospitality. When your host offers you chang, accept with BOTH hands. Sip gently. Place your palm over the cup when you've had enough. That's the polite signal.

   Backup: If you truly cannot drink alcohol, explain medical reasons - Ladakhis understand illness.

3. 3 Find the Grandmother's Secret Recipe Wine · Free · Optional

   Every family's chang is different - grandmother's secret recipe passed down. Women brew it. Each batch tells a family story. Ask your host: "Who taught you to make this?" The answer is always a woman - often a grandmother. Her recipe lives in every sip.

   Backup: If commercially bought, ask where the family usually gets THEIR chang - they'll have a source they trust.
