Elton John started this in 1995. Now you're holding Austrian wine at 2,300m watching Christina Aguilera.

April 30, 1995: Elton John became the first global superstar to perform at a ski resort at altitude, putting Ischgl on the map. Thirty years later, the Top of the Mountain concerts continue—Rita Ora (Nov 2025), Christina Aguilera (May 2026). You ski to Idalp at 2,300m, stake out a spot with Austrian wine in hand, watch a free concert included in your ski pass, and witness the absurd legend Elton created. After, you ski down to Kuhstall and dance on tables to German Schlager. This is the arc.

What to do there

5 things to do

1. 1 Check concert dates: Rita Ora (Nov 29) or Christina Aguilera (May 2) Adventure · Free

Before booking Ischgl trip, verify exact Top of the Mountain concert dates on ischgl.com. 2025-26 season: Opening (Nov 29, 2025 - Rita Ora), Easter (April 5, 2026 - Robin Schulz), Spring (April 19, 2026 - Ben Zucker), Closing (May 2, 2026 - Christina Aguilera). Pick opening or closing for maximum energy—closing concert is bigger deal with end-of-season vibes, spring skiing, sun terraces packed. Both are free with ski pass. Book accommodation 3-6 months ahead for concert weekends.

Backup: If concert weekends sold out, Easter concert (Robin Schulz, April 5) or Spring concert (Ben Zucker, April 19) are good alternatives with better availability.

2. 2 Arrive at Idalp (2,300m) by 1pm for good standing position Adventure · Free

Take Silvrettabahn or Fimbabahn from Ischgl village to Idalp (2,300m) by 1pm on concert day. The main stage is set up on the snow near Idalp Panorama Restaurant. Stake out a spot 30-50 meters from main stage—NOT the mosh pit (you want view + space for wine glass), but close enough to feel the energy. Idalp is where Elton John performed in 1995 and 2008, starting this entire cultural phenomenon. Secure your spot by 2pm, concert starts around 3-4pm.

Backup: If Idalp is too packed by 1pm, higher terraces (Pardorama direction) offer views and less crowd—you'll hear the concert and see the stage from distance.

3. 3 Sip Austrian wine during the concert (you're holding history) Wine · Price: low

Standing at your chosen spot on Idalp, wine glass in hand, watching Christina Aguilera or Rita Ora perform at 2,300m surrounded by snow-covered peaks. Buy Austrian wine by glass from Idalp Panorama Restaurant (€10-12) or bring your own bottle. Hold the glass during the performance and count the absurdities: global superstar, ski resort, 2,300m altitude, free concert, Austrian wine, Alps on all sides. Sip between songs, sing along when you know the lyrics, chat with whoever's next to you about why this exists.

Backup: If wine feels impractical (cold hands, crowded), hot mulled wine (Glühwein) is sold everywhere—still Austrian, warmer, easier to hold in ski gloves.

4. 4 Ski down to Ischgl village after concert. Continue to après bars. Adventure · Price: low

Concert ends ~4-5pm and ski runs stay open post-concert so 20,000+ fans can descend simultaneously. Follow the crowd down blue or red runs to Ischgl village center—it's a moving party down the mountain with everyone buzzing from the concert, singing songs, stopping at mountain bars for Glühwein. Once in village, choose your après-ski path: Schatzi Bar (chaos), Champagnerhütte (luxury), Kuhstall (table dancing after 10:30pm).

Backup: If skiing down feels unsafe (dark, crowded), Silvrettabahn cable car runs post-concert to ferry people who prefer not to ski.
