Grüner Veltliner covers 31% of ALL Austrian vineyards—14,423 hectares—making Austria's dominance so complete that if you drink Grüner Veltliner anywhere on Earth, it almost certainly came from here. This is a geographic near-monopoly: Austria is to Grüner Veltliner what Georgia is to Saperavi. Ask: 'Can I see a bottle of Grüner Veltliner under €20?' They'll show you 5+ options from Wachau, Kamptal, Weinviertel. Pick up a bottle, read 'Österreich' (Austria) on the label—this grape defines a nation.

   🔄 BACKUP: If wine shops are closed, any restaurant with a wine list will have Grüner Veltliner by the glass (€6-12). Order it and ask your server about its uniqueness to Austria.

   Ski the Hahnenkamm, Then Toast with Austrian Sekt

   Take Hahnenkammbahn cable car to the top, then ski the parallel Streif course (red run #21, 3.3km, 860m vertical drop). The real Streif is the most dangerous World Cup downhill—85% gradient at Mausefalle, 140 km/h speeds, racers airborne 80 meters. You'll ski the parallel course (easier but still challenging). When you cross the finish line in town, you've conquered what terrifies World Cup champions. Walk to Leo Hillinger bar (5 min in ski boots) and order Austrian Sekt (sparkling wine, €10-15). Tell the bartender: 'Just skied the Streif.' They'll know. This is the same finish line where racers spray champagne—your achievement is legitimate.

   🔄 BACKUP: If weather closes the Streif or you're not confident, ski any black run on Hahnenkamm and celebrate anyway. Or visit the Hahnenkamm race museum in town, watch videos of racers going airborne, then drink wine and tell the story.

   Touch the 2-Meter Walls That Stopped Armies for 600 Years

   Hotel Weisses Rössl houses a 15th-century defensive tower that protected Kitzbühel's silver and copper from invaders during the mining boom. These stone walls are 2 meters thick—never breached by armies in the 1400s, not by time. The same temperature stability (10-14°C for 600 years) that preserved precious metals now preserves wines worth tens of thousands of euros. Walk into the lobby (open to public), approach reception: 'I've heard about the 15th-century wine vault—can you tell me the history?' Touch the stone walls at the vault entrance with permission. This fortress outlived empires and now guards Château Mouton Rothschild and Austrian Grüner Veltliner.
