Buy a cable car ticket (round-trip €20-25) from the Hahnenkamm base station in Kitzbühel town center. As you ascend to 1,700m, watch for the Streif start gate structure — it's visible from the gondola. Time your ascent for 1-2 hours before sunset (varies by season: summer ~7-8pm, winter ~4-5pm). You're taking the same journey as racers, but for wine instead of racing glory.

   This terrace offers 360° views: Wilder Kaiser massif to the north, Kitzbüheler Horn to the east, and Großglockner (Austria's highest peak, 3,798m) to the south on clear days. At Hochkitzbühel bei Tomschy restaurant (top of Hahnenkamm cable car at 1,700m), the Tomschy family has run this legendary spot for decades. Arrive 1-2 hours before sunset and request a table on the Sonnenterrasse. Order Austrian wine — Grüner Veltliner (white) or Zweigelt (red). Ask the server: 'Which peak is Großglockner?' Then watch the alpenglow (pink light on peaks) develop as the sun sets. The altitude and views make even simple wine taste transcendent.

   The Hahnenkamm downhill race (the Streif) has run since 1931 and is the most feared race in skiing. The Mausefalle section has an 85% gradient — racers go airborne for 80 meters. From Hochkitzbühel restaurant, walk toward the obvious start gate structure (big red banners in winter, more subtle in summer). Stand behind the starting wand and look down the course — the first section drops so steeply you can't see the Mausefalle from the start. Ask yourself: 'Would I point my skis down this?' You're looking at where legends like Franz Klammer, Hermann Maier, and Didier Cuche began their 3-minute battles with gravity. Then return to the terrace and toast the racers' courage with Austrian wine.
