They thought it was a modern hiker who'd died recently — they were off by 5,290 years. This discovery rewrote prehistory with a perfectly preserved Copper Age man carrying tools, clothing, and a full stomach of his last meal. From Vent village (parking available), hike via Martin Busch Hut → Similaun Hut (4.5 hours) → discovery site (1.15 hours, total 7 hours round trip). The discovery site is marked — stand where history changed and look south toward Italy (where his axe copper came from) and north toward Austria (where he was heading when he died). You're standing in the middle of a 5,300-year-old trade route.
