   Thursday after 9pm is when the ski patrol, mountain guides, and seasonaires gather at the Avocado Bar on Dorfstrasse - the low-key entrance most tourists walk past. Tourist hours are before 8pm. Walk in like you belong and find a spot at the bar, not a table. Bar seats equal conversation; tables equal isolation.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Thursday doesn't work, Friday after 10pm is second-best for the real crowd.

   Buy the Owner a Drink

   The owner has been serving the mountain community since the 1970s and knows every guide, every rescue story, every legend. CHF 15 for a drink unlocks 50 years of history. Say "I heard you know some Eiger stories," then listen without interrupting - these stories are earned through decades on the mountain.

   🔄 BACKUP: If the owner's not there, any ski patrol jacket at the bar will have stories too.

   The Fondue Surprise

   Order the fondue (CHF 25-30) - yes, in a dive bar, but they've been making it since the 1970s. Ask for "the fondue and a wine that goes with it" and let them pick. It'll be right. Trust the process that's worked for five decades.

   🔄 BACKUP: If fondue's too heavy, the raclette is smaller and just as good.
