Ask yourself: if 600 of your life's works were destroyed, could you keep painting?

   Witness Mountains Painted by a Man Fleeing Death

   Kirchner painted Davos mountains in VIBRANT, almost violent colors - yellows, purples, electric blues. These aren't peaceful Alpine postcards. These are mountains seen by a man who fled Berlin's dark Expressionism for Switzerland, seeking peace but finding only temporary escape. Exit the museum and face the mountains Kirchner painted. Identify one peak in a Kirchner painting (ask museum staff to confirm which mountain it depicts). Find that peak in real life. Compare: Kirchner's electric yellows vs actual snow, his angular slopes vs actual curves. The gap between his painting and reality = the gap in his mind.
