You'll walk 4km of via ferrata from Saas-Fee to Saas-Grund: ladders, steel cables, suspension bridges hanging over churning whitewater. The highlights? A pendulum walk over the void and rappelling from a Nepali bridge. Saas-Fee bus terminal, ask for directions to Gorge Alpine entry point (few minutes walk). Mountain guide mandatory - book at saas-fee.ch or call +41 27 958 11 00. They provide gear and keep you alive (from CHF 300 for full route).

   🔄 BACKUP: If via ferrata feels too intense, there's a standard hiking trail from Saas-Fee to Saas-Grund that parallels the gorge without the cables. Less adrenaline, still beautiful.

   This isn't spring snowmelt - this is glacier melt. The Fee Glacier, Allalin Glacier, and others are bleeding ice that's been frozen for centuries into this river. While on the via ferrata (or hiking trail), stop at any bridge or overlook above the Feevispa. The milky turquoise color? Glacial flour - rock ground to powder by ice, suspended in the water. Look upstream and identify at least 2 glacier tongues feeding this watershed. You're watching mountains dissolve in real time.

   🔄 BACKUP: Ask your mountain guide to point out which glaciers feed this river. They'll also tell you how much the glaciers have retreated in their lifetime. The answer will depress you.

   Toast Your Survival with Petite Arvine at the Finish Line

   You just hung from steel cables over a river that could crush you. Now you're going to drink the wine that makes Swiss wine obsessives weep: Petite Arvine. At Waldhotel Fletcher's terrace (Saas-Grund end of the gorge trail, you'll emerge near here), ask for "Petite Arvine, please, from Fully or Chamoson if you have it." Citrus, white flowers, rhubarb, then that signature salty finish like fleur de sel on your tongue. The grape is 99.7% exclusive to Valais. Hold the glass up to the mountains - you earned this.
