Cable car from Saas-Grund to Kreuzboden, board 90 minutes before sunset (July ~9:15pm, September ~7:45pm). Reserve a table at Bergrestaurant Kreuzboden (+41 27 957 29 45) and request terrace seating.

   From Kreuzboden terrace, scan the horizon 180 degrees for 18 peaks above 4,000m. Dom, Täschhorn, Alphubel, Allalinhorn, Rimpfischhorn, Strahlhorn, Nadelhorn, Lenzspitze, Ulrichshorn, Balfrin... that's 10. Find the other 8. This is the challenge locals give tourists - some bartenders reward completionists with a free glass. Ask restaurant staff for a peak map, use binoculars if available, work left to right. You have until sunset to identify them all.

   🔄 BACKUP: If you can't name all 18, at least identify Dom (tallest, most prominent) and Täschhorn (trident peak). Those two alone are worth the cable car fare.

   Drink Cornalin While the Mountains Turn From Gold to Shadow

   Cornalin is Valais's most powerful red - dark cherry color with violet flashes, spicy clove, fruity black cherry. It nearly went extinct before 1980s winemakers rescued it. Order it as golden hour begins at your terrace table. The wine is dark as the shadows creeping up the mountains. Watch the light change every 3 minutes: white peaks → gold → pink → purple → black. Your glass goes from cherry-red to nearly invisible as darkness falls. That's the show.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Cornalin is unavailable, ask for Humagne Rouge (another rescued indigenous red) or any Valais red blend. The point is matching dark wine to darkening mountains.

   Ride the Last Gondola Down in Complete Darkness

   The descent from 2,400m to Saas-Grund in darkness is surreal after sunset, after the wine. Board the final or second-to-last gondola, turn off your phone, and let your eyes adjust to darkness. You're suspended between earth and sky, full of wine and sunset memories, gliding down through black air. Watch the valley lights get closer. Count how many thoughts you have between Kreuzboden and Saas-Grund. Should be zero.

   🔄 BACKUP: If you miss the last gondola (DON'T), you're spending the night at Kreuzboden restaurant. They do offer romantic candlelit dinners under the full moon with 4-course menus, so... could be worse?
