   Badrutt's Palace is 1 of only 4 Krug Ambassades in Switzerland, their cellar holds 30,000 bottles including vintage Krugs dating back decades. Ask the concierge desk in the main lobby for "a cellar tour with the sommelier" and when they show you the Krug section, request "the oldest vintage Krug you'll actually open for me." Watch them calculate if you're worth it. If they say yes, you're tasting liquid history that predates your birth — the partnership started winter 2017/18, but they stock Krugs MUCH older than that.

   Dine INSIDE the Cellar Where Krug Sleeps

   Book the Krug Stübli for truffle fondue surrounded by 30,000 bottles.

   Krug Stübli is a tiny cozy chalet WITHIN the wine cellar itself - used to be Hans Badrutt's garden house, now it's where you eat truffle fondue paired with Krug Champagne while literally surrounded by the cellar's rarest bottles. Bottles travel up via a historic 1900s elevator to 11 restaurants above, but YOU get to dine where they sleep. Email event@badruttspalace.com or call +41 (0)81 837 26 59 to book in advance. Request the truffle fondue (signature dish) with Krug pairing, ask the sommelier to show you the 1900s bottle elevator in action - it's absurdly tiny and charming.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Krug Stübli is fully booked, ask if you can do a standing tasting IN the cellar before dinner elsewhere. The cellar itself is the holy shit moment.

   Stand where Johannes Badrutt made the bet that invented winter tourism.

   Summer 1864, Johannes Badrutt bet four English guests: "Come back in winter. If you don't love it, I'll pay your travel." They came, they loved it, winter tourism was born. This bet happened in the hotel's public area — the SAME building you're standing in now (rebuilt 1896 after fire, but same family, same vision since 1864). Walk through the main lobby (open to public even if not staying), look for historical photos showing the original Badrutt family, ask staff: "Where did Johannes Badrutt make the 1864 bet?" They'll point you to the traditional gathering area where the most important wager in Alpine tourism history changed everything.
