   Nafplio's serious wine bars carry aged Agiorgitiko - wines that demonstrate what Nemea high-altitude reds do with 10+ years in bottle.

   High-altitude Nemea Agiorgitiko (600-900m) ages 20+ years - what Mycenaean kings valued in their golden cups. Most tourists drink the young versions, but the aged ones taste completely different: fruit recedes, secondary flavors emerge (leather, dried fig, tobacco, iron). At 3SIXTY or Alkioni, ask the sommelier: 'What is your oldest Nemea PDO by the glass?' Then ask: 'What did the vintage before it taste like?' A good bar will pour you a taste of both if you're genuinely curious. The younger should be red fruit and plush tannins; the older should be complex, tertiary, and structured - the difference IS the altitude, IS 3,000 years of winemakers figuring out which slopes age best.

   Find Nafplio's Palamidi Fortress at Night - The View That Earns the Wine

   The Venetian fortress above Nafplio is lit at night and visible from every wine bar terrace. The walk up (999 steps) is for daylight; the view from below at dusk is free.

   Nafplio was Greece's first capital after independence (1821-1834) precisely because Palamidi Fortress (216 meters above sea level) made it defensible. The Venetians built it in three years (1711-1714) using forced Greek labor - 999 steps cut into rock. After dinner and wine, walk toward the fortress base around 9-10pm when floodlights illuminate the walls. Find a spot on Akronafplia (lower fortress promontory) for views of both harbor and Palamidi above. Below you're drinking wine in an Ottoman-Venetian-Greek hybrid city, above three empires left their stone. The wine connects them all - each culture that held this town also drank Nemea wine.

   🔄 BACKUP: Bourtzi Castle (the small island fortress in the harbor, visible from all wine bar waterfront terraces) is lit at night and reached by boat during daylight. The waterfront promenade gives unobstructed views of both fortresses simultaneously - no steps required.
