   The underground aging cellars where 1905 meets the present — Koropi's first winery you could ever actually visit.

   Giorgos Vassiliou planted these vineyards in 1905. His grandson — also Giorgos, but now an oenologist trained in European technique — built this winery and made it the FIRST one in the entire Koropi area that ordinary people could visit. Three generations of family knowledge lived entirely inside this estate before the doors opened to the public. Book via +30 210 6640910 at Domaine Vassiliou (Markopoulos Avenue, Koropi 19400). During the 15-minute winery tour, descend into the underground cellars and put your hand on the stone wall — the calcareous and coppery soil of Koropi's slopes is directly above you, 150 acres of it built directly into that geology.

   🔄 BACKUP: If the cellar tour is abbreviated, ask: "Is the 1905 founding year documented anywhere in the building?" The original planting story is always displayed somewhere. Four generations in one winery is rare enough to be worth pausing on.

   Watch 4,000 Years of Attic Wine History in 10 Minutes

   The multimedia hall on the top floor — built to restore Mesogeia's reputation as wine country.

   The Mesogeia district is the OLDEST and LARGEST wine-producing region in Greece — 4,000+ years of wine history stretching back to when Attica traded wine across the entire eastern Mediterranean, when Attic amphorae have been found in North Africa, the Black Sea, and Egypt. The multimedia hall at Domaine Vassiliou was built specifically to tell this story. Ask your host: "Can we see the wine tradition presentation?" Watch even if it runs only 10 minutes — look for when Attica's wine reputation COLLAPSED in the 20th century with industrial Retsina replacing fine wine. The show is simultaneously a history and a manifesto for quality restoration.

   🔄 BACKUP: If no presentation is running, ask a staff member to walk you through the display panels. The room itself — built for banquets, conferences, and cultural events — tells the story of a winery that sees itself as a cultural institution, not just a producer.

   Taste Koropi's Copper Soil in Two Glasses

   45 minutes, 4 wines, Greek mezze — and a side-by-side that no other winery in the world can replicate.

   Vassiliou's 150 acres sit on soils described as calcareous (limestone) AND coppery — a dual-mineral combination specific to this particular slope of Koropi. The oenologist grandson specifically chose European winemaking technology to translate this terroir precisely. During the standard 45-minute tasting with cheese pies, spinach pies, and Greek salad, when the Savatiano is poured, ask: "Does the soil here differ from Markopoulo?" A good host will explain the calcareous-and-copper difference. Compare to the Roditis if offered — two indigenous Attic grapes, same estate, same terroir revealing what the soil contributes versus the grape variety.
