   Galaxidi is a perfectly preserved 19th-century maritime town built on shipping fortunes and remarkably unaffected by mass tourism. Skeletovrachos is a father-son operation using the harbor's daily fish market directly — mussel pilaf (mussels with rice in broth), fried anchovies (whole, crispy, with lemon), grilled squid (simple, charcoal, olive oil). These aren't sophisticated restaurant dishes but what Greek fishing families have eaten for centuries, prepared well. At Skeletovrachos Taverna on Galaxidi's southern harbor (Agora), arrive after 7pm and order mussel pilaf as shared starter, then ask: 'Ti else simera?' (What arrived today?). That answer is always the right order.

   Sip Wine at Ocean Drive — a Bar Built Into the Sea

   Ocean Drive Galaxidi is a bar platform built over the water at the harbor entrance. Sunset here with Mount Parnassus rising behind the town is extraordinary.

   This is the moment when you stop analyzing and simply drink wine while looking at something beautiful. Mount Parnassus rises dramatically behind Galaxidi, the Gulf of Corinth opens west, fishing boats return at dusk, neoclassical mansions line the waterfront. All of it — the mountain where Dionysus was worshipped, the sea ancient ships used, the architecture of human ambition — visible simultaneously from Ocean Drive's platform extending over the water itself. Arrive 45 minutes before sunset, order regional white wine or local rosé, sit facing west over the Gulf, and stay until dark.

   Walk the Neoclassical Harbor Front at Dusk

   Galaxidi's 19th-century shipping mansions are some of the finest neoclassical architecture in rural Greece. They're best seen when the harbor lights come on at dusk.

   Galaxidi's prosperity peaked when its sailing ships traded across the Mediterranean. Ship owners built neoclassical mansions along the harbor with views of the sea that made them rich. After steamships replaced sail, Galaxidi declined — accidentally preserving it perfectly. No industrial development, no concrete blocks, just original 19th-century fabric plus excellent tavernas. Start at the main dock and walk the entire 400m harbor front to Ocean Drive bar. Count the two-story neoclassical mansions with stone facades and wooden shutters, noting the variation reflecting the hierarchy of ship-owning wealth. Return along the upper parallel street for a different view.

   🔄 BACKUP: Galaxidi's waterfront is open at all hours and free to walk. The town's small maritime museum is a worthwhile 30-minute addition if open.
