   Seek the symposium vessel collection in the Ephesus Archaeological Museum (Selçuk town center, €10, 08:00-18:30) - kraters, kylix cups, wine amphorae from excavations of a city Strabon called superior in wine to Samos. Look for vessels with Dionysus imagery and friezes from Teos showing the wine god in procession - this coastline was Dionysus's home territory before Greeks 'imported' him westward. Ask attendants: 'Where are the Dionysus artifacts?' They know the layout and the symposium dining equipment section reveals how elite Ephesians organized wine rituals.

The wine vessels here from 1st-3rd century AD show the middle chapter when this coast rivaled anything in the Roman world. In the ceramics gallery (ground floor), find a wine amphora and read the description card noting date and location. Ask attendants: 'Which is the oldest wine-related object here?' They often know the story.

   The museum exterior itself tells the story

   From the museum courtyard (free to enter), you can see four layers of wine civilization: Greek wine culture (amphorae inside), Roman symposium culture (artifacts inside), early Christian transformation of wine into Eucharist (St John's Basilica, 6th century), and Ottoman culture (Isa Bey Mosque, 1375). Stand in the courtyard and look northeast, counting visible historical layers - mosque dome (Ottoman), basilica ruins (Byzantine), Ayasuluk Hill fort (Seljuk). Walk inside and add Greek and Roman layers. You just stood at a 3,000-year wine crossroads.
