   The spring at Meryem Ana Evi has been used by pilgrims of multiple faiths for centuries - Christians, Muslims, and before them, likely worshippers of water nymphs this hillside was sacred to. The area around Ephesus was covered in sacred springs where water and wine defined both Dionysian and Christian ritual. Fill your hands from the spring and taste it - this act connects you to 2,000 years of pilgrims. Compare the sensation to drinking wine at Ephesus later: water from a sacred spring, wine from sacred vines, both from the same Anatolian earth.

   Pope Paul VI visited in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979, Pope Benedict XVI in 2006. Three papal visits to a small Turkish hillside house reveal its theological weight. More remarkable: 19th century German nun Anne Catherine Emmerich, bedridden with stigmata, 'described' this exact location in visions published in 1852. Explorers found it where she described.
