   Use the summit orientation table to locate Mont Blanc and other Alpine giants

   You're standing at 3,330m with a 360° view covering 1/5th of French territory. The metal orientation table (circular, engraved with peak names + directions) identifies Mont Blanc (4,808m), Grandes Jorasses, Grand Combin, Matterhorn, Grand Paradis, La Meije, Écrins massif, Aiguilles d'Arves. These aren't distant bumps — on clear days, you can see the GLACIERS on Mont Blanc's flanks. Find Mont Blanc to the north - it's the highest point on the horizon. Then trace the Italian border peaks. Ask anyone nearby: 'Can you see the Rhône Valley today?'

   🔄 BACKUP: If clouds obscure peaks, the orientation table still shows what SHOULD be visible. Study it — you're learning Alpine geography at the best classroom in Europe.

   Walk Through the Rock Tunnel — Carved for Skiers in 1963

   In 1963, engineers carved a TUNNEL through the Pic Blanc summit so skiers could access the north face runs (including Sarenne). This wasn't a mining tunnel or a bunker — it was drilled purely for skiing, leading to 'Le Tunnel' run, one of the steepest in the Alps at 35° (70% gradient). Walk into the tunnel near the cable car exit - it's short, maybe 30 meters. Look at the drill marks in the rock ceiling. Standing in this carved passage, you realize the obsession: humans literally reshaped a 3,330m mountain to ski it.

   🔄 BACKUP: If the tunnel is closed (weather/avalanche risk), ask lift staff about the 1963 drilling project. It's resort legend.

   Decode the Wine Valleys — From 3,330m to Grape Level

   On clear days, you can see the distant Rhône Valley where Savoie wines originate. The Grésivaudan valley (running north from Grenoble) and the Combe de Savoie (Chignin-Bergeron territory) are visible as green corridors below. This is the 'wine from space' perspective — you're seeing the entire terroir system from a bird's-eye view. Use the orientation table to locate south/southeast, looking for green valley floors between white peaks. Ask: 'Which valley is Chignin?' (Southeast toward Chambéry.) If you've been drinking Savoie wines all trip, this is the reveal — you can SEE where they came from.

   🔄 BACKUP: If visibility is poor, ask the lift staff: 'On clear days, can you see the wine valleys?' They'll describe what you're missing. Then promise yourself you'll come back.

   Time Your Visit for Alpenglow — Watch 1,000 Peaks Turn Gold

   Experience sunset alpenglow on surrounding peaks

   Alpenglow is when the setting sun turns snow-covered peaks pink, orange, then deep red. At 3,330m, you're watching this happen to 1,000 peaks simultaneously — Mont Blanc, Écrins, Italian border ranges all glowing at once. Arrive at the Pic Blanc terrace 30 minutes before sunset, watch the light move from west to east across the peaks, and stay until the glow fades completely — it takes 15-20 minutes post-sunset. The temperature drops fast (bring layers), but this is the moment where the Alps stop being individual mountains and become a single, glowing ecosystem.

   🔄 BACKUP: If clouds or timing prevent alpenglow, the daytime 360° view is still exceptional. The alpenglow is the cherry on top, not the main event.
