The giant wooden barrel at 96 avenue des Jeux seats 6-8 people on stools around the circumference, front-row to the parade of sunburned faces, ski boots, and mountain comedy. You can't miss it - public art meets functional seating. In winter, they add heaters. The view: main street foot traffic, mountains behind, wine in hand.

   Order Chignin-Bergeron and watch the mountain parade

   Claim a stool at the outdoor wine cask and order a glass of Chignin-Bergeron (Savoie white, €10-15) - it's the Roussanne grape grown near Chambéry with more body than typical Savoie whites. Or order champagne (€12-18) if celebrating. Settle in for the show: ski boots stumbling, couples arguing about restaurant choices, kids in helmets licking ice cream at 1,860m elevation. Flag down staff or walk inside to order, then bring your glass to the cask. This is après-ski without the DJ booth chaos.

   🔄 BACKUP: If weather is brutal (wind, cold), order your glass and take it inside the shop. They have standing room and you can browse the Rhône/Savoie selection (Cuilleron, Courbis, Pochon) while drinking.

   Attend a winemaker tasting with producers

   Email vinsmarconhuez@gmail.com or call 04 76 79 26 08 at least 1 week before your trip. Ask: "Do you have winemaker tastings scheduled during [your dates]?" Julie Pers hosts producers regularly - they drive up from the valleys and pour their own bottles. You're tasting with the person who made the wine, learning about grapes, terroir, and the struggles of making wine in the Alps. Tastings run €20-40 depending on producer. Focus on Isère producers if they're featured - these are the rarest wines you'll taste anywhere.

   Explore the Chartreuse liqueur collection

   Browse the Chartreuse collection inside Vins Marcon - nowhere else in Alpe d'Huez has this depth. Chartreuse is made by Carthusian monks in the Chartreuse Mountains (visible from Alpe d'Huez) since 1737. Secret recipe of 130 herbs, still produced by monks today. Green Chartreuse (55% ABV), Yellow Chartreuse (40% ABV), aged vintages. Ask Julie to explain the difference between Green and Yellow. Buy a bottle (€40-80) or ask for a tasting pour (€8-12/glass). The digestif after ski days, liquid history of these mountains.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Chartreuse is too intense or expensive, ask about Christine Ferber jams (also sold here) - the "jam queen of Alsace" whose preserves pair beautifully with Savoie cheeses.
