   Arrive at Dawn, Dressed for Work

   Harvest starts at dawn (7-8am) when temperatures are cool and grapes firm, so arrive dressed for work in long pants, closed shoes, and layers. Bring gloves if you have them — you'll be given secateurs and a bucket at the grower's vineyard for the morning's labor.

   Earn Your Lunch

   After 4-5 hours picking, harvest crews gather at long tables at the grower's property or village hall, where homemade food and flowing champagne reward your morning's work. You've earned your place alongside them — sit, eat, drink, listen to the stories that are the real education, even if your French isn't perfect.

   Watch the Press (If Invited)

   Fresh grape juice from the first pressing tastes extraordinary — sweet, bright, nothing like finished wine — if you're invited to stay and watch at the grower's press house. Ask politely: "Puis-je voir le pressurage?" Not all growers allow this access, but many are proud to show their process.

   🔄 BACKUP: Even without pressing access, the picking day is the experience.
