   Ride the Saulire Express to the spine of Les 3 Vallées

   You're ascending to the mountain that physically connects Méribel and Courchevel—the geographic spine of the world's largest ski area. Board the Saulire Express gondola at Méribel La Chaudanne, climbing 1,260 vertical meters in 10 minutes to 2,710m. On clear days, you'll see Mont Blanc (4,808m) to the east and the Combe de Savoie valley (where Savoie wines grow) 2,000+ meters below to the southwest. Use your Les 3 Vallées ski pass (included) or buy pedestrian ticket (€15-20). Best visibility: 10:00-14:00 before afternoon clouds build.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Saulire Express closed due to wind (happens occasionally), take the Tougnète gondola from Méribel Mottaret instead (2,434m). Lower altitude but similar valley views, and you can still see Combe de Savoie on clear days.

   Order champagne or Savoie wine at the summit terrace

   Exit gondola, walk to summit terrace for champagne (€15-25/glass) or—better—ask for "vin de Savoie local" (€8-12/glass), usually Apremont (Jacquère) or Chignin-Bergeron. The revelation: you're drinking wine grown in valleys you can literally point at from above. At La Folie Douce (5min ski from summit, DJ booth shaped like champagne bottle) or Saulire summit bar (immediately at gondola exit), ask bartender: "Which Savoie wine is from the closest vineyard to here?" They'll point out Chignin or Apremont (61km southwest, 2,000m below). Best times: 12:00-13:30 (lunch, less crowded) or 16:00-17:00 (golden hour).

   🔄 BACKUP: If both bars too crowded or closed, bring your own bottle of Savoie wine purchased earlier from La Cave Méribel or Partajo. Find a quiet spot on the viewing platform, pop the cork, and make your own moment.

   Identify the Combe de Savoie valley where tonight's wine is aging

   Standing at Saulire summit (2,710m) facing southwest, locate the Combe de Savoie valley where vineyards appear as patchwork patterns at 300-500m elevation. You're looking at vertical terroir made visible—the Chignin, Apremont, and Arbin vineyards are 61km away and 2,000+ meters below you. Use your phone to photograph: you holding wine glass in foreground, valleys visible below in background. If with friends, point out valleys and explain: "That's where this wine came from, 2,000 meters below us. Same day, two elevations." This geographic connection—drinking wine at 2,710m grown at 500m—is unique to Alpine ski culture.

   🔄 BACKUP: If clouds obscure valley views, ask summit staff for a map showing Savoie wine regions relative to Méribel. Most summit bars have regional maps. You'll get the geography lesson indoors, then apply it later when drinking Savoie wine in the valley.

   Ski to Courchevel and back (bonus: traverse the 3 Valleys spine)

   From Saulire summit, ski down the Courchevel side (blue/red runs toward Courchevel 1850), lunch at Courchevel village (€20-40), ski back to Saulire, descend to Méribel. You're traversing the geographic spine of Les 3 Vallées—the infrastructure Peter Lindsay's vision helped create. Total: 3-4 hours including lunch. Intermediate skiing ability required. Check lift status before departing—if Saulire cable car closes due to wind, you'll be stuck in Courchevel (expensive taxi back, €80-100). The wine connection: Courchevel's restaurants serve the same Savoie wines from the same Combe de Savoie vineyards you viewed from above.

   🔄 BACKUP: If skiing ability insufficient or weather deteriorates, take the Saulire gondola down to Courchevel as pedestrian (if operating both directions), have lunch, ride back up and down to Méribel. You've still crossed the spine, just via gondola instead of skis.
