   Drive south from Bolgheri village on Via Bolgherese (SP16d). The cypress avenue starts immediately and runs 5km to the SS1 highway. Stop at the small pull-off area about 2km in for photos - look for a dirt patch on the right. Pro tip: arrive 30 minutes before sunset, drive through, visit a winery, then return for golden hour. The cypresses frame the road perfectly looking north toward the village.

   Taste the Wine That Changed Italy at Ornellaia

   Marchese Lodovico Antinori founded Ornellaia in 1981. Their €200+ bottles compete with Sassicaia for Italy's best Bordeaux-blend.

   Email experienceornellaia@ornellaia.it at least 2 weeks ahead. Book the 'Ornellaia Vintage Experience' (€50-65pp) for multiple vintages + cellar tour. During your visit, ask about the Vendemmia d'Artista project - every year a different contemporary artist creates a label and installation. The barrique cellar is architecturally stunning. Groups of 6-12 get the best experience.

   Taste Sassicaia (Italy's Only Single-Estate DOC)

   Sassicaia invented Super Tuscans in 1968. It's the only wine in Italy with its own DOC created just for it.

   IMPORTANT: Tenuta San Guido (Sassicaia's winery) does NOT do public tours. Instead, visit Osteria San Guido in Bolgheri village (Via Lauretta, 1). They pour Sassicaia by the glass (€30-50 depending on vintage). Order a glass of current vintage plus the second wine 'Guidalberto' (€15) to compare. Sit outside and watch the sunset over the village walls. ALTERNATIVE: Book a private lunch at the estate through a tour operator (Cellar Tours, etc.) - expensive but includes food pairing.

   Bolgheri has 50+ wineries. The smaller estates often have better accessibility and stories than the icons.

   Book one lesser-known estate: Michele Satta (family-owned, €25 tastings, walk-ins welcome), Grattamacco (stunning views, €30), or Campo alla Sughera (biodynamic, €20). These estates often have the winemaker pouring. Ask about the 2015 and 2016 vintages - they're considered legendary in Bolgheri.    Lunch in the Walled Village

   The medieval village of Bolgheri has ONE entrance - the castle arch. Population: ~50 people. Vibes: time capsule.

   Enter through the castle arch (the only entrance). Walk the single main street (100m total). For lunch: Osteria Magona (traditional Tuscan, pici pasta, €30-40pp) or Da Rosita (simple, family-run, cash only). After lunch, climb to the viewpoint next to the cemetery for photos of the cypress avenue from above - this angle appears in every Bolgheri postcard but most tourists miss it.
