   Walk through the entrance (non-guests allowed for restaurant/bar). Notice the original stone walls - this was a wealthy family's refuge built when Amalfi was a maritime republic rivaling Venice. The frescoes in the Arcade Bar are 18th-century originals. Ask the concierge which room Gore Vidal preferred (he was a regular).

   Enter the Arcade Bar (walk-ins after 18:00, no reservation needed). Ask for a Costa d'Amalfi DOC white or Greco di Tufo. €12-18/glass. The bar is less expensive than the restaurant and has the same view from the terrace. The frescoes above you are original 18th-century work.

   Walk to the terrace edge (restaurant/bar area has partial view). The infinity pool is at the highest point of the property - its edge aligns with the escarpment, creating the illusion of water stretching to the horizon. Pool access is guests only, but you can see it from the restaurant terrace.

   Book Belvedere Restaurant for dinner (€80-150pp, reserve 2+ weeks ahead at belmond.com). Request a terrace table. The wine list has deep Campanian selections. Order local: Fiano di Avellino or Greco di Tufo for white, Taurasi for red. The pairing menu is €70-100 on top of food.

   Ask the staff about the terraced gardens below the pool. A path winds through lemon trees and bougainvillea. Walk it before sunset. The gardens are 11 centuries old - the same layout the medieval nobles designed. Few visitors explore beyond the main terrace.
