   At La Crotta di Vegneron cooperative in Chambave (call ahead: +39 0166 46670), request the side-by-side that surprises everyone: dry Chambave Muscat (100% Moscato Bianco, floral but bone-dry, 12% ABV) versus Muscat Flétri (grapes dried 3-6 months, concentrated sweetness, 15% ABV). Most people expect Muscat to be sweet — the dry version shocks them. Ask about appassimento for Flétri: grapes hung in ventilated rooms until they lose 40% water weight, concentrating sugars naturally.

   Find the Roman Road They Forgot to Pave

   Between Chambave and Nus, sections of the Via delle Gallie (Roman road to Gaul) remain unpaved - cart ruts worn into bedrock 2,000 years ago. Wine traveled this route from Aosta to France.

   On the descent from Chambave to Nus, look for Via Francigena signs near Fabbrica hamlet where the Via delle Gallie connected Milan to Gaul through Aosta. You can still see wheel ruts carved into stone by iron-rimmed ox carts carrying wine amphorae — Romans rationed 1 liter daily per legionnaire, but altitude reduces consumption because alcohol hits harder. Stop your e-bike, walk the unpaved sections, touch the grooves worn into granite over centuries. Brown signs mark the medieval path that reused Roman roads.
