Enrosadira is a LADIN word — the ancient Romance language still spoken in these valleys. It means 'turning pink/rose.' The Dolomite limestone (250 million years old) contains minerals that reflect sunset light as pink, coral, then crimson. On the terrace at Chalet Tofane (Socrepes lift station), before 17:00, ask someone at the bar: 'What does enrosadira mean in Ladin?' Then ask: 'What time does it start tonight?' Winter: 17:00-17:30. Summer: 18:00-18:30. Position yourself facing EAST toward the Dolomite peaks (Tofane massif).
BACKUP:If no one speaks English well, look for any posted information about sunset times. The phenomenon happens at sunrise too (called "enrosadira del mattino").
Ask the bar for 'Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene' — NOT just 'Prosecco.' Valdobbiadene is a specific DOCG zone 100km south in the Veneto hills. 'Superiore' means it's from the original historical zone with strict quality rules, while regular Prosecco can be from anywhere in a 9-province area. When it arrives 30 minutes before sunset, smell for white flowers and green apple. Tell the bartender you're waiting for enrosadira and ask: 'Which peak turns pink first?'
BACKUP:If they don't have Valdobbiadene specifically, ask for their best Prosecco DOCG (not DOC).
Stand on the terrace facing east with your glass at 17:00 (winter) or 18:00 (summer). The enrosadira sequence goes: pale yellow → coral pink → deep rose → crimson → purple-gray (fade). Total duration: 15-20 minutes. The Dolomites are UNESCO World Heritage (2009) partly because of this phenomenon. Stand still, watch in silence (the DJ should pause or lower music), and notice which tower of the Tofane massif catches light first. The color comes from dolomite rock (CaMg(CO₃)₂) reflecting low-angle sunlight.
BACKUP:If cloudy, enrosadira won't happen. Ask: "When's the next clear sunset forecast?" Or: "Did it happen yesterday?"
The Socrepes area is connected to Cortina's Olympic skiing zones. The 2026 Winter Olympics (Feb 6-22) are happening NOW — 70 years after Cortina's 1956 Games. Chalet Tofane before the 1980s was a tiny cabin serving the old Socrepes ski lift. After sunset, at the bar or tables, ask the bartender: 'Which Olympic event is closest to here?' or 'How has this place changed since the Olympics were announced?' Look for any Olympic branding or memorabilia around the renovated chalet.
