   Bruno Detassis (1911-2008) - the 'Lord of Brenta' - was one of the Dolomites' greatest mountaineers who in 1940 designed Canalone Miramonti. Twenty-seven years later in 1967, it hosted Italy's FIRST EVER World Cup ski race - the very year the World Cup was founded. Walk the finish line area before the race starts (gates open around 4:30 PM for the 8:45 PM slalom) at the base of Canalone Miramonti run near Pradalago lift. Ask ski patrollers or race staff: 'Where is the Bruno Detassis memorial?' The 'Lord of Brenta' lived to 97, died in Madonna di Campiglio in 2008, and his climbing routes remain legendary.

   🔄 BACKUP: If you can't find a physical memorial, ask ANY local over 50: 'Tell me about Bruno Detassis.' In Campiglio, he's a legend - someone will tell you stories of his first ascents in the Brenta Dolomites.

   Under floodlights at 8:45 PM on January 7, 2026, you'll watch the 72nd edition of the 3Tre - Italy's oldest World Cup venue since 1967. Sector B tickets (€30-40, 20% off first 33 sold) put you at 'The Wall' where skiers hit 40+ mph on a 57% grade while navigating tight gates. The sound of edges carving ice, the spray of snow, the grunts of effort - you'll FEEL it inches from the action. Arrive by 7:30 PM at www.3trecampiglio.it, bundle up for January night at 5,000 feet, and stay for both runs.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Sector B sells out, try Sector H (finish line standing area) or Sector A (finish line seated). All offer electric atmosphere - the night slalom under lights is pure theater.

   Toast With Ferrari Trento When the Winner Hits the Podium

   When the winner steps on the podium around 10:15 PM, they spray a JEROBOAM (3 liters) of Ferrari Trento - the same wine Giulio Ferrari created in 1902 by smuggling Chardonnay from France.    Ski the Canalone Miramonti Black Run Next Morning

   Carve the same 1940 run the World Cup racers attacked 12 hours earlier

   The morning after the race, Canalone Miramonti still has gates remaining from Bruno Detassis' 1940 design - the same 57% grade pitch where World Cup racers flew at 40 mph just 12 hours ago. Take first lifts up via Prà Rodont or Spinale (8:30-9:30 AM before crowds), ski it ONCE for the experience, then again for speed. Compare your time to the winner who did both runs in ~50 seconds total. You'll need... longer. This is a REAL black run dropping 1,640 vertical feet, not a groomed cruiser.

   🔄 BACKUP: If snow conditions are too icy or you're not an expert skier, take the lift UP and WALK the finish area. You can still see the course setup, feel the pitch, and understand what you watched the night before.
