The name 'Muri-Gries' fuses their Swiss origin with their Bolzano home — exile turned into renaissance. This is not a boutique winery playing at history; it's a working monastery where the same order has made wine for 180 years.

Walk 10 minutes east to Cantina Bolzano / Kellerei Bozen (Via San Maurizio 36) after visiting Muri-Gries. The co-op blends from hundreds of small plots; the monks control every vine. At Cantina Bolzano (€10-15 tasting, Mon-Fri 9am-12:30pm, 2-6pm), ask for their Lagrein Riserva. Taste it side by side with your memory of the monastery Riserva. The co-op wine is typically more fruit-forward and polished; the monastery wine more structured and mineral. Same grape, same soil, different souls. Ask: 'How many growers contribute to this Lagrein?' The number (200+) tells you everything about the difference.
