Deutsche Weinstraße: 85km of German Wine History

Founded in 1935, the Deutsche Weinstraße (German Wine Route) runs 85km from Schweigen-Rechtenbach to Bockenheim. It's Germany's oldest wine route, passing through 100+ wine villages, rolling vineyards, and castle ruins. Drive, bike, or walk segments to experience Pfalz Pinot evolution.

   The iconic arch marks the southern start of the route.

   Begin at the Deutsches Weintor (German Wine Gate) in Schweigen-Rechtenbach. This 1936 arch marks the southern start of the 85km route. Take a photo - you can return here for the Friedrich Becker experience.

2. 2 Stop in Neustadt an der Weinstraße Wine · Price: moderate

   The central hub with the most tasting options.

   Neustadt is roughly the midpoint and has the highest concentration of wine bars and producers. Walk the Altstadt (old town) and find a Vinothek (wine shop with tasting). Sample at least 3 different Spätburgunders.

3. 3 End at the Haus der Deutschen Weinstraße (North) Adventure · Free · Optional

   The northern terminus in Bockenheim.

   Drive or bike to Bockenheim to find the Haus der Deutschen Weinstraße - the northern end. You've completed the full 85km route. The building houses a restaurant and wine shop.
