   The moment you step out of the car onto the Patagonian high desert (meseta) at 70 meters elevation around Bodega Humberto Canale (General Roca, Río Negro Province), you feel the wind that creates Canale's wines. Steppe vegetation, distant mountains, endless sky — this is NOT Napa. This is where viticulture became an act of resistance when Humberto Canale planted Pinot Noir and Semillon here in 1909 with zero market, zero infrastructure. Arrive early before the tasting room opens, walk the perimeter, notice the wind direction and sparse vegetation.

   Taste the Old-Vine Pinot Noir

   Vines with 80+ years of root depth create complex wines.

   Request their old-vine Pinot Noir specifically at the Bodega Humberto Canale tasting room bar. These 80+ year vines have deeper root systems reaching minerals other vines can't access, with lower yields producing concentrated fruit. Patagonian Pinot carries higher acidity than California — the gift of cool desert nights. Ask for their flagship old-vine Pinot, and if available, compare to a younger-vine bottling to taste what Patagonia's extremes deliver.

   Try the Argentine Riesling

   One of Argentina's best Rieslings — cool climate proof.

   Canale's Riesling is considered one of Argentina's finest — proof of how extreme Patagonia's climate truly is at the Bodega Humberto Canale tasting room bar. The fact that Riesling (a grape demanding cool nights and high acidity) thrives here, 2000km south of Buenos Aires, reveals the desert's cold night magic. Request the Riesling by name, taste it cold, and notice the acidity and minerality that only desert cold nights can deliver.
