Housed in a 14th-century former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, this museum explains how monks invented the concept of 'climat' - the specific combination of soil, slope, and microclimate that makes each vineyard unique. This is where you learn to read Burgundy labels like a sommelier.

Entry is ~€6. On the second floor, find the display of tastevins (shallow silver cups). The dimpled bottom lets you evaluate wine clarity by candlelight. Look for the 18th-century examples with family crests.

In the main gallery, find the massive relief map of the Côte d'Or. This shows why monks spent 900 years mapping - each colored section is a different 'climat.' Count how many Grand Crus you can identify (there are 33).

Take the stairs to the basement. The oak barrels and 500-year-old presses are original to the building. Touch the worn stone steps - they've been polished by 600 years of winemakers.

The Dukes of Burgundy ruled from this 14th-century palace — step into the courtyard (open to public, no admission) and run your hand across the weathered stone beneath the ornamental Gothic windows. These blocks predate the first climat classifications by 50 years, holding the weight of Burgundy's royal wine history in their grain.
