SUNDAY NOV 16: Hospices de Beaune auction under Les Halles - public viewing free. MONDAY NOV 17: La Paulée de Meursault at Château de Meursault - lunch from noon until evening, 730 guests, invitation required. THE TRADITION: Founded in 1923 by Count Jules Lafon. Originally a harvest workers' celebration. Now wine's most exclusive party. COST: If invited, tickets are ~€300-500 depending on year. But the wine you bring is the real investment - most guests bring €500-5,000+ bottles.

   Seek a Paulée Invitation (Multi-Year Quest)

   The invitation requires connections - start building them now.

   WHO GETS INVITED: Vignerons, négociants, major collectors, wine trade, and their guests. If you're new to Burgundy, you're unlikely to receive a first invitation. THE LONG GAME: 1) Develop relationships with Burgundy producers by visiting annually and buying consistently. 2) Join a Burgundy-focused wine club or society. 3) Work in the wine trade if possible. 4) Attend La Paulée de New York (held each February) - it's more accessible and demonstrates your commitment. TIMELINE: Expect 3-5 years of relationship-building before a Paulée invitation. This is a multi-year quest. APPLICATION: The Paulée organization (lapaulee.com) does not sell tickets publicly - everything is through relationships.

   Join the Meursault Village Festivities

   💡 WHAT: Even if you're not at the Paulée, Meursault village celebrates all weekend.

   📍 WHERE: Meursault is 8km south of Beaune (GPS: 46.9783, 4.7697). Walk the village and knock on cellar doors. SPECIFIC OPPORTUNITIES: 1) Château de Meursault (where the Paulée is held) offers public tastings on non-Paulée days - try their whites. 2) Domaine Roulot and Domaine Coche-Dury are the village legends - if you can taste anywhere near them, do it. 3) The main street has multiple tasting opportunities. TIMING: Visit on Saturday or Sunday (Nov 15-16) while the Paulée guests are at other events. Monday is the Paulée itself - the village is in party mode but focused on the château.

   🔄 BACKUP: If all tastings are booked, buy Meursault from a caviste (wine shop) and drink it overlooking the vineyards.

   IF YOU CAN'T ATTEND THE REAL PAULÉE: Create your own. INVITE: 6-10 wine-loving friends to Meursault or Beaune on the same weekend. RULE: Everyone brings one bottle worth at least €50 to share. THE LOCATION: Book a restaurant in Beaune or rent a gîte (vacation rental) with a big table. Serve Burgundy of course. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: The Paulée spirit is about generosity, sharing, and the wines you bring defining your status. Even a DIY version captures this.
