   Enter the palace (€18-21, book at chateauversailles.fr). Walk to the Hall of Mirrors - 73m long with 357 mirrors. In 1871, Germany proclaimed its Empire here after defeating France. On June 28, 1919, France forced Germany to sign the Treaty ending WWI in the SAME room. Deliberate humiliation. Stand in the center where both events occurred.

   Understand the Champagne Loophole

   history Free

   Article 275 of the Treaty protected the "Champagne" appellation internationally. But the US Senate never ratified the Treaty of Versailles. That's why "California Champagne" is technically legal in the US to this day. You're standing where this happened.
