   Arrive 30 Minutes Before Sunset

   Check sunset time (varies by season) and arrive 30 minutes early. Stand at the south end of the square looking toward the column. As the sun sets behind you, the column and surrounding facades turn golden. Best photography light.

   🔄 BACKUP: If overcast, the buildings still glow beautifully at blue hour (20 min after sunset).

   Circle the Column

   Walk around the Vendome Column (44m tall). Napoleon stands on top dressed as a Roman emperor. The bronze spiral reliefs tell the story of Austerlitz in 76 scenes - 1,200 captured cannons were melted to make the bronze. Read the panels counterclockwise from the base.

   Photograph the Ritz Lights

   Wait for dusk when the Ritz facade lights up. Princess Diana had her last meal here (August 31, 1997) before the fatal car crash. Photograph the lit entrance from across the square - the contrast between warm lights and blue sky is iconic.
