   Set alarm for 1 hour before sunrise (check exact time the night before). Drive to GPS 43.0605, 11.6214. Park on the roadside. Walk 2 min toward the chapel. Find your angle - the classic shot has the chapel centered with cypress trees flanking it, rolling hills behind. Shoot during blue hour (30 min before sunrise) for moody shots, then golden hour for the classic warm glow.

   Find the Hidden Second Angle

   Most photographers use the same angle. There's a better one.

   Walk 200m SOUTH along the road from the main viewpoint. Turn back toward the chapel. From here, you get the chapel with the morning sun behind you (better light on the facade) and a longer view of the rolling hills. Fewer photographers know this angle. The cypresses frame differently - experiment.

   Toast with Brunello at Sunrise

   Bring a half-bottle of Brunello and one glass from your accommodation. After shooting for 20 min, pour yourself a glass. Position the glass in foreground with chapel behind - this is THE shot.    Capture the Mist in the Valleys

   On cool mornings, mist fills the Val d'Orcia valleys.

   Best in May-June and Sep-Oct when temperature differences are higher. Look DOWN into the valleys - mist pools in the low areas while hilltops emerge. The chapel sits above the mist line on ideal mornings. If you get mist, shoot vertical compositions with layers: mist, fields, chapel, sky. This shot is worth waking up for.

   Drive the Monticchiello Winding Road

   Another iconic Tuscany shot - 20 min away.

   After Chapel Vitaleta, drive 20 min to Monticchiello. Take SP88 toward Pienza. Stop at GPS 43.0675, 11.7303 - this is the winding road viewpoint. The road curves through cypress trees - THE other iconic Tuscany shot. Best light is morning (you're here already). Combine with breakfast in Pienza.
