Jonkershoek is a mountain biker's paradise. Bermed corners, bridges, technical sections, and double-black drops. The trails are managed by MTO Forestry - everything from beginner-friendly 10km loops to advanced single-track.
The scenery is spectacular: towering mountains, indigenous fynbos, and the Cape Floral Kingdom that defines the terroir of Stellenbosch wine. You're riding through the same ecosystem that makes the wines taste the way they do. Ancient soils, mineral-rich, shaped by fire and drought.
Download the myMTO App to purchase permits online and access trail maps. Day permit roughly R100-150. Summer gets very hot - ride early. Winter can be wet and cold, with snow on the peaks. Bring water, snacks, and a repair kit. The trails are technical.
Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, 9km from Stellenbosch on Jonkershoek Valley Road. If Jonkershoek is too advanced, the Coetzenburg and Eden/Paradyskloof trails in Stellenbosch are more accessible and still gorgeous. Many run through wine farms and fynbos.
