History

Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio on August 15, 1769. Reportedly preferred local wines throughout his life. Sciacarello ("crackly" in Corsican) survived only here thanks to island isolation. AOC granted 1984. Domaine Comte Abbatucci, owned by descendants of Napoleonic general Jean-Charles Abbatucci, farms pre-phylloxera heritage vines and preserves 18 indigenous varieties.
