History

Named after Chalon-sur-Saône where Romans offloaded wine 2,000 years ago - over 20,000 Roman amphorae found in graves. Mercurey recognized by court ruling in 1923, making it Burgundy's second-oldest appellation. 1980s winemaking revolution established reputation for consistent quality.
