History

Eugène-Aimé Salon created the first Blanc de Blancs in 1905 from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, using 20 vineyards. Released publicly from 1921 vintage. Clos du Mesnil vineyard planted 1698; Krug purchased the 3.7-acre walled vineyard in 1971 from Tarin family. These ancient seabed chalk soils produce wines requiring 10+ years to reveal their character.

Climate: Cool continental with east-facing slopes; Cretaceous chalk soils provide excellent drainage and heat retention; shallow soils with chalk fragments impart distinctive minerality
