History

Romans established viticulture 2nd century BC with Allobroges tribe. Pliny the Younger praised Côte-Rôtie's violet bouquet. Name means "roasted slope" for long sun exposure. Legend says Côte Blonde and Côte Brune named after blonde and brunette daughters of local lord. Terraces constructed Roman-style for millennia.
