History

Called "Vin de Mure" in 1700s when shipped to England via Bordeaux - most expensive Northern Rhône at the time. AOC established 1937 around Crozes-Hermitage village (granite, north); expanded 1952 to include alluvial plains (south). 1846 tasters praised similarity to Hermitage. Alain Graillot revolutionized quality 1985 - former marketing manager bought 22ha, proved Crozes could rival cru quality. Sons Maxime (Domaine Equis 2004) and Antoine continue legacy.
