History
Romans planted vines here 2,000 years ago. Cardinal Richelieu made Fronsac a duchy in 1634 and gave his name to the château. His great-nephew Marshall Richelieu - godson of Louis XIV - introduced Fronsac wines to the Court of Versailles.

- Consistent limestone terroir (more uniform than Saint-Émilion); hillside vineyards overlooking Dordogne and Isle rivers; asteriated limestone plateau with clay-sand-limestone on slopes; 834 hectares across 7 communes

- Château Moulin Haut-Laroque - Hervé family since 1607, Jean-Noël Hervé made it famous from 1977, 16ha on Saillans hillside, 65% Merlot / 20% Cabernet Franc / 10% Cabernet Sauvignon / 5% 100-year-old Malbec. $25-35/bottle.

- Cardinal Richelieu's personal duchy where wines once outsold Pomerol. Louis XIV's godson hosted Versailles courtiers here. More consistent limestone than Saint-Émilion at a fraction of the price.
