Mentioned 1338 in Pairis Abbey registry. 1931: Ammerschwihr owners sought legal protection. 1932: Tribunal de Grande Instance de Colmar ruled in their favor - FIRST lieu-dit legally delimited in Alsace, 40+ years before Grand Cru system. Rejected Grand Cru offer 1990. Finally accepted 2007 as 51st Grand Cru - but nearly 40 producers contested in court. ONLY Grand Cru (with Altenberg de Bergheim) allowing blends.
