Macvin tradition dates to medieval times, supposedly created by abbesses in Franche-Comté monasteries. The technique blends fresh grape must with aged marc brandy (minimum 18 months in barrel). The resulting mistelle then ages another 12+ months. AOC granted 1991, making Macvin the only French mistelle with its own protected designation.
