History

The monks of the Grands Carmes order established the estate in the 16th century, carving cellars directly into the hillside - these multi-level caves still house the wines today. The Rougier family purchased the property in 1830 and has owned it for nearly 200 years. Phylloxera devastated Provence in the late 1800s, but determined families like the Rougiers replanted. Some Château Simone parcels now boast vines OVER 125 YEARS OLD. Jean Rougier's persistence with INAO in 1946-48 created one of France's most exclusive appellations.
