History

AOC status granted 1937 for Sauvignon Blanc, one year after Sancerre. "Fumé" has dual meaning: grey smoky bloom on ripe grapes ("white smoke") and gunflint aroma from silex terroir. Didier Dagueneau revolutionized appellation 1982-2007, starting with 1.2ha, creating legendary Silex cuvée 1985. Son Louis-Benjamin continues legacy at 12ha estate.
