History

Vineyards flourished 11th-12th centuries under Augustinian monks at Saint Satur Abbey. Duke Jean de Berry called it finest wine in kingdom (Pinot Noir era). White AOC granted 1936, red/rosé 1959. Historically linked to Duchy of Burgundy, explaining Pinot Noir heritage. Sauvignon Blanc revitalized Sancerre's reputation 20th century.
