History

Greeks planted 5th century BC; Romans expanded. King Philippe IV (le Bel) proclaimed it "only good wine in world" after single glass from horseback. Avignon Popes (1309-1377) made it official papal wine. Balzac praised it 19th century. Hemingway declared it his favorite rosé. Devastated by phylloxera (5km from French entry point at Pujaut). AOC 1936 - first rosé appellation ever.
