History

Greeks established Corsican viticulture around 570 BC at Aleria. Romans expanded production. After centuries of Genoese then French rule, the modern AOC system arrived in 1976 with island-wide Vin de Corse designation. Five sub-regional "crus" (Calvi, Sartène, Porto-Vecchio, Figari, Cap Corse) can add their name for more specific origin.

Various producers - gateway wines; Clos Canarelli and Domaine de Vaccelli make excellent examples. Price: $15-25.
