History

Sartène epitomizes Corsican identity. Prosper Mérimée (author of Carmen) called it "the most Corsican of Corsican towns" in 1840. The town was infamous for vendettas lasting generations. Vineyards on granite terraces surrounded by maquis scrubland - aromatic wild herbs (rosemary, myrtle, cistus) that influence wine character. AOC 1976.
