Greeks introduced Aglianico grape 7th-6th century BC during Magna Graecia colonization (name derives from "Hellenic/Ellenico"). Romans developed extensive viticulture on Monte Taburno slopes - documented in monastic archives and historical records. Medieval period: monasteries preserved winemaking traditions. DOC recognition 1986 as Taburno. August 2011: Aglianico del Taburno elevated to DOCG status, becoming Campania's 4th DOCG after Taurasi (1993), Fiano di Avellino (2003), Greco di Tufo (2003).
